Secondary Antioxidants are powerful additives that significantly complement the effectiveness of primary antioxidants. While primary antioxidants directly intercept free radicals, secondary antioxidants primarily act as peroxide scavengers. They intervene at a later stage in the oxidation chain by converting unstable hydroperoxides into stable, non-reactive compounds.
The secondary antioxidants in the LUBIO® series protect lubricants from the accelerated formation of radicals that would result from the decomposition of hydroperoxides. By specifically decomposing these oxidative intermediates, they prevent the uncontrolled propagation of the reaction chain and stabilize the lubricant even under demanding operating conditions. In combination with primary antioxidants, secondary antioxidants have a synergistic effect: they extend the service life of the oil, maintain viscosity and other key lubricant properties, and thus contribute significantly to the operational reliability and service life of machines and systems.
